!!!Volksheim

Volksheim, association dedicated to an early form of 
Abendvolkshochschule (adult evening education centres), founded in 
1901 in Vienna, first organisation in Europe to offer systematic 
teaching and courses in  Adult Education which saw itself as an 
institution of higher education and thus co-operated closely with the 
universities. The Volksheim centre built by the association in 
Vienna-Ottakring (opened in 1905) enjoyed great popularity (today a 
Volkshochschule).
