!!!Volkshilfe

Volkshilfe (People´s Aid), independent charity (founded in 
1946), successor organisation of the social-democratic 
"societas" (founded in 1921). Non-partisan, 
non-denominational organisation with around 40,000 members (1994). The 
Volkshilfe charity is organised as an Austrian holding organisation 
and legally independent provincial organisations (in all provinces) 
and some district associations. Volkshilfe is a member of Solidar 
(formerly Workers´ Aid International) and specialises in 
projects in Eastern Europe. In Austria, Volkshilfe operates mobile 
services (home help and home nursing), in-patient services (old-age 
homes, senior citizens´ clubs), refugees´ and advice 
centres and kindergartens and organises childminders, etc. Volkshilfe 
employs around 3,000 persons.
