WAZ, abbreviation for the newspaper "Westdeutsche Allgemeine 
Zeitung" and the Essen newspaper group of the same name, which 
acquired 45 % of the  "Kronen-Zeitung" newspaper in 
1987 and 45 % of the  "Kurier" newspaper in 1988 (today 
50 and 49,4 % respectively); the WAZ is also joint proprietor of 
the  Mediaprint company.
