Waissenberger, Robert, b. Vienna, Aug. 16, 1926,
d. Vienna, March 28, 1987, historian. From 1949 in the cultural office
of the City of Vienna, from 1974 director of the museums of the City
of Vienna. The Vienna Historic Museum reached international status
under W.´s management with numerous exhibitions and the
establishment of cultural heritage sites (e.g. dedicated to W. A.
Mozart, J. Haydn, L. van Beethoven, A. Stifter). Organized
large-scale historical exhibitions such as "Traum und Wirklichkeit.
Wien 1870-1930" (1984/85) and initiated the foundation of the Vienna
Jewish Museum ( Jewish Museums). Numerous publications.
