!!!Wald- und Wiesengürtel Wald- und Wiesenguertel, green belt on the outskirts of Vienna, basically defined in 1905 by the Vienna municipal council. The "Schutzgebiet Wald- und Wiesenguertel" protection zone is 10,700 hectares large (1988) and today mainly comprises parts of the Vienna Woods in the west and north-west of Vienna, smaller green areas on the Wienerberg and Laaer Berg hills to the south, the north and south sections of the Donauinsel, the Lobau wetlands in the south-east, a green area in the north-east (21%%sup st/% district) and the Bisamberg hill in the north. The preservation of woods and green spaces has been taken into account in the course of planning structural measures for Vienna since 1892; at that time the western and northern parts of the "Wald- und Wiesenguertel" was still located outside the city boundaries. Only recreational facilities are permitted in the "Wald- und Wiesenguertel" and no other buildings may be erected. !Literature Magistrat der Stadt Wien (ed.), 70 Jahre Wald- und Wiesenguertel, 1975; idem (ed.), Planungsatlas fuer Wien, 3%%sup rd/% instalment, 1990. %%language [Back to the Austrian Version|AEIOU/Wald-_und_Wiesengürtel|class='wikipage austrian'] %% [{FreezeArticle author='AEIOU' template='Lexikon_1995_englisch'}] [{ALLOW view All}][{ALLOW comment All}][{ALLOW edit FreezeAdmin}]
