Waldinger, Ernst, b. Vienna, Oct. 16, 1896, d. New York 
(USA), Feb. 1, 1970, poet, essayist, translator. Studied German 
philology and art history. Worked at a publisher´s in Vienna. 
1938 fled to the USA and was Professor of German Language and 
Literature in Saratoga Springs 1947-1965. His formal classicistic 
philosophical poems ("Der Gemmenschneider", 1937) are marked by the 
experience of fascism and exile and by disorientation and 
homelessness.
