Water Skiing: in Austria, water skiing is regulated by the Austrian
Water Ski Federation (OeWSV) founded in 1951, located in Neudoerfl
(Burgenland). Tournaments are held in slalom, tricks, jump and
combination with boat, cable (teleski), barefoot, wakeboard and races.
In 1993 the European championships were held in Fischlham (Upper
Austria), in 1998 in Steyregg (Upper Austria). Austria´s most
successful women water skiers are R. Hansluvka (now Schoenberger) who
won 32 Austrian, 12 European and 2 world championships (jump, 1961 and
1963) between 1959 and 1968 (in the Waterski-Hall-of-Fame since 2000)
and Britta Llewelyn Grebe who won 10 European jump championships, and
in 2000 also won the world championship in teleski jump. The most
successful male water skiers between 1968 and 1983 were M. Rauchenwald
(who won 20 Austrian championships and numerous prizes at European and
world championships), M. Hintringer and A. Krenn (world champion in
teleski in 2000).
