Wechsel Region, mountainous region at the border between Styria and 
Lower Austria, forms part of the Central Alps, consists of gneiss and 
secondary foliates, comprises the  Hochwechsel mountain (alt. 
1,743 m, Wetterkogler Haus mountain refuge) and Niederwechsel 
mountain (alt. 1,669 m), is separated from the Semmering region 
by Feistritz saddle (alt. 1,287 m) and bounded on the south by 
Joglland region and on the north-east by Bucklige Welt region, rich in 
forests and alpine pastures (many alpine huts, on so-called 
"Schwaigen"). Popular destination for day-trips and skiing. 
Main towns and villages are Moenichkirchen, Aspang-Markt, Kirchberg am 
Wechsel, Sankt Corona am Wechsel.
