1820, d. Graz (Styria), March 8, 1899. Historian. Professor 
in Freiburg im Breisgau, 1853-1891 university professor in Graz. 
Author of the much read "Lehrbuch der Weltgeschichte" (Textbook of 
World History,1859). Private tutor and travelling companion to 
Archduke Karl Ludwig (brother of Emperor Franz Joseph I)
