Weiskirchner, Richard, b. Vienna, March 24, 1861, d. Vienna,
April 30, 1926. Law graduate and Christian Socialist politician. From
1883 employed by the City of Vienna, 1903-1909 chief executive of the
City of Vienna, 1909-1911 Minister of Commerce; 1913-1919 Major of
Vienna, tried to alleviate hardship in the aftermath of World War-I
and greatly influenced the development of the city. 1917/18 member of
the Upper Chamber of the Reichsrat and 1919-1923 member of the
Constituent national Assembly and member of the Nationalrat, 1920-1923
President of the Nationalrat.
