!!!Welden, Ludwig Freiherr von

b. Laupheim (Germany), June 16, 1780, 
d. Graz (Styria), Aug. 7, 1853, military officer and politician; 
probably the father of E. van der  Nuell. From 1798 in the service of 
Wuerttemberg, from 1802 in the service of Austria, participated in the 
battles against Napoleon, later became the director of the Topographic 
Office and, after numerous other commands, became General Commander of 
Tyrol. Upheld the connection between J. W. Radetzky's army and the 
other countries in 1848, became Governor of Dalmatia in 1848, in Nov. 
1848 Commander in Vienna in 1849 and Supreme Commander in Hungary in 
1849. After his retirement in 1851 he lived in Graz.
