Weller, Walter, b. Vienna, Nov. 30, 1939. Conductor. 1961 
concert-master of the Vienna Philharmonic; conducted at the Vienna 
State Opera from 1966 (first as substitute, from 1969 contracted as 
conductor); 1971 general music director in Detmold; from the 1970s 
international career; 1975-1988 chief conductor of the 
"Niederoesterreichische Tonkuenstler" orchestra; from 1992-1997 
musical head of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra; since 1994 
musical director of the Allgemeine Musikgesellschaft in Basel, general 
musical director of the Basel Theatre and head conductor of the Basel 
Symphony Orchestra.
