b. Vienna, March 29, 1915, plant physiologist. Director of the 
Institute of Nature and Landscape Conservation; from 1955 director of 
the Austrian Nature Conservation League, 1973-1985 University 
Professor of Vegetation Ecology in Vienna. Awarded the K. Lorenz Prize 
for Environment Protection in 1981.
