Wernstein am Inn, Upper Austria, municipality in the district of 
Steyr-Land, alt. 313 m, pop. 1,720, area 16.50 km%%sup 2/%, 
on the River Inn north of Schaerding and opposite Neuburg Castle 
(Bavaria). - Late Gothic parish church with extensions (1966/67), 
altar area designed by K. Prantl, larger-than-life crucifix 
(15%%sup th/%  century); Virgin column (1647, in Wernstein am Inn 
since 1667); castle ruins (16%%sup th/% /17%%sup th/%  century); house 
of A.  Kubin in Zwickledt, where the artist lived during most of his 
life.
