b. Prague (Czech Republic), June 14, 1895, 
d. Trins (Tyrol), Feb. 12, 1945, botanist, son of Richard  Wettstein. 
Moved to Vienna with his parents in 1899; Professor at the 
Universities of Goettingen, Munich and Berlin. genetic research on 
plants; one of the first to recognise the function of the constituent 
parts of cell plasma as carriers of genetic information.
