Weyer Markt, Upper Austria, market town in the district of Steyr-Land, 
alt. 399 m, pop. 2,324, area 4.41 km%%sup 2/%, tourist 
resort in the Enns valley at the mouth of the Gaflenzbach river. - 
District court, youth welfare office of the District Commission, 
Balgsetzerhaus (old smithery used to house events for the promotion of 
local agricultural activity), day-care centre run by the Lebenshilfe 
charity, state-owned stud breeding of Haflinger horses, advanced-level 
commercial school; candle factory, furniture factory. - In the Middle 
Ages, the municipality was a major centre of the iron industry, called 
"golden market town" for its wealth, economic decline from 
the 17%%sup th/%  century; houses of the wealthy owners of hammer 
mills dating from the Gothic, Baroque and Classicist eras; Gothic 
parish church (first documented mention in 1259), consecrated in 1443, 
Gothic fresco, enlarged 1848-1852; late Gothic St. Sebastian 
church (documented mention in 1513), Rococo high altar (1774); 
Renaissance palace (around 1560); "Krennhaus" residence 
(1559); 2 market wells (around 1600).
