!!!Weyprecht, Karl

b. Koenig (Germany), Sept. 8, 1838, 
d. Michelstadt (Germany), March 29, 1881, naval officer, battleship 
lieutenant. Joined the Austrian Navy in 1856; served in the wars of 
1859 and 1866 (naval battle at Lissa). His keen interest in natural 
sciences brought him together with J. von  Payer, with whom he 
went on the Austro-Hungarian  North Pole Expedition  from 1872-1874. 
returned safely after their ship, called "Admiral Tegetthof", got 
stuck in pack-ice. Afterwards engaged in scientific research, from 
1879 at the Vienna Meteorological Institute.
