b. Prague (Czech Republic), Aug. 31, 1848, 
d. Vienna, Jan. 25, 1894, mathematician, Professor at the 
polytechnical college in Prague; at the University of Vienna from 
1875; founded in 1890 together with G. von  Escherich the 
"Monatshefte fuer Mathematik und Physik" (monthly magazines 
for mathematics and physics). Greatly influenced the teaching of 
geometry in Austria.
