Winden am See, Burgenland, municipality in the district of Neusiedl am 
See, alt. 124 m, pop. 1,041, area 13.51 km%%sup 2/%, north of 
Lake Neusiedl. - Open-air museum dedicated to the sculptor W. Bertoni; 
aerials and cable manufacturing plant, wine growing, warehouse 
cooperative. - Archaeological finds and traces of settlements from the 
New Stone Age to the Roman period. Located on a Roman Imperial Road, 
excavations of a Roman estate with the oldest known winepress in 
Austria; Baroque parish church (1725), interior decoration from the 
first half of the 18%%sup th/% century; mortuary chapel with 
late-Gothic Mount of Olives relief, tabernacle pillar with Gothic 
lantern from the 15%%sup th/% century, 2 Plague crosses (17%%sup th/% 
century); Baerenhoehle Cave north of Winden am See (only cave in 
Burgenland with cave animal finds from the Ice Age, excavations 
1929-1931).
