Windhaag bei Freistadt, Upper Austria, market town in the district of 
Freistadt, alt. 723 m, pop. 1,848, area 42.88 km%%sup 2/%, in the 
northern Muehlviertel region at the Czech border. Muehlviertler 
Waldhaus Forest Museum with several open-air museums; quarry, stone 
industry, building and construction industry. A.  Bruckner was an 
assistant teacher in Windhaag from 1841-1843 ("Brucknerstueberl" room 
in the former school building); late-Gothic parish church (1487-1507), 
extensively altered in 1873; Statues of St. John of Nepomuk, St. 
Donatus and St. Florian (1731).
