!!!Winiwarter, Georg Ritter von

b. Lvív, Ukraine (then Lemberg), July 21, 1822, 
d. Graz (Styria), July 2, 1902, entrepreneur; son of Josef von  
Winiwarter. Engineer with the national railways in 1849/50; with his 
brother Joseph Max W. and the chemist H. R. Gersheim, founded a 
factory in Gumpoldskirchen (Lower Austria) in 1851 for the production 
of galvanised sheet iron, percussion fuse (according to a patent by 
Gersheim) and lead products from 1857. When his partners left the firm 
in 1865, G. von W. ran the factory alone; also produced 
corrugated sheet iron, boiler plants and stoves; sold the enterprise 
to J. B. Ulrich in 1890.
