b. Vienna, April 12, 1921, economic geographer. Professor at 
St. Gallen, Switzerland, from 1964-1971; Professor at the 
University of Vienna from 1971-1985; President of the Austrian 
Geographical Society from 1978-1981; has undertaken various 
expeditions (in Europe, to the Middle East, to North Africa, to North 
and Central America); research on economic geography, transport and 
tourism.
