Winter Riding School, section of the Vienna  Hofburg (on the site of 
the former Paradeisgartl garden), built by J. E. Fischer von 
Erlach 1729-1735, renovated after a fire 1994/95, attached to the 
Michaelertrakt section and connected to the Stallburg stables opposite 
by a gateway. The riding hall itself, where exercises and performances 
of the  Spanish Riding School  take place, is 50 m long, 
19 m wide, has a gallery supported by 46 Corinthian columns and 
is said to be the most beautiful riding hall in the world. Court 
balcony with equestrian statue of Karl VI. In the Winter Riding 
School, the famous "Caroussels" took place there, concerts of the 
Gesellschaft der  Musikfreunde in Wien were held there from 1812-1830; 
the Reichstag (Imperial Diet) met there in 1848.
