!!!Wlach, Oskar
b. Vienna, April 18, 1881, d. New York (USA), Aug. 15, 1963,
architect and designer. Collaborated from 1908 with O. Strnad and,
from 1910 to 1938, with J. Frank; with the latter, Wlach founded the
home furnishing store "Haus & Garten" in 1925, which soon achieved
considerable renown in Europe owing to its Viennese arts and crafts
articles. In 1938 the company was expropriated as Jewish property, and
Wlach fled via Switzerland and Britain to the USA, where he tried
unsuccessfully to continue his professional career.
