autobiographical novels of individual development ("Auf freiem Fuss", 
1975; "Herrenjahre", 1976; "Niemandsland", 1978) take issue with the 
traditional regional literature and uncompromisingly describe social 
conditions under which it is not possible to lead a satisfying and 
happy life.
