b. Vienna, Dec. 29, 1939, surgeon. Studies and scientific career in 
Vienna. Head of the "Assisted Circulation - Artificial Heart" working 
group at the second Surgical University Hospital of Vienna from 1968, 
Professor of surgery at Vienna University since 1981, head of the 
Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Heart Surgery Research since 1982, 
chairman of the second Surgical University Hospital of Vienna from 
1981-1993, head of the Department of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery at 
the University Hospital of Surgery of Vienna since 1994. Has acquired 
international renown as a cardiologist with several publications; 
numerous decorations.
