!!!Wopmann, Alfred

b. Wels (Upper Austria), Nov. 23, 1936, director, managing stage 
director. Studied philosophy and violin; violinist of the Lower 
Austrian orchestra "Niederoesterreichisches Tonkuenstlerorchester" 
from 1959-1967; assistant director since 1990 of the  Bregenz 
Festival, the Vienna Burgtheater and the Vienna State Opera from 
1963-1968; first independent mise-en-scene for the opera-house of 
Dortmund in 1972. Since then has worked as a director at various 
theatres in Austria and abroad. From 1983 artistic director and since 
1990 managing director of the at Bregenz Festival, where he has 
introduced new dramaturgical techniques emphasising the visual 
dimension ("Bregenzer Dramaturgie").
