!!!Wurmser, Dagobert

b. Strasbourg (France), May 7, 1724, 
d. Vienna, Aug. 22, 1797, army commander (field marshal). Served at 
first in the French Army, joined the Austrian Army in 1762 and was 
particularly successful in the Bavarian War of Succession in 1779. In 
the first Coalition War against Napoleon, was commander-in-chief of 
the Austrian troops deployed at the Rhine; conquered the lines at 
Weissenburg in 1793 and Mannheim in 1795 but suffered defeat against 
Napoleon in Italy 1796-1997 (surrender at Mantua in Feb. 1797).
