(Pseudonym W. Constant)

b. Ljubljana, Slovenia (then Laibach), April 11, 1818, 
d. Berchtesgaden (Germany), Aug. 17, 1893, librarian and 
lexicographer; father of Alfred  Wurzbach. Served as an officer in the 
army before he became a librarian at Lemberg (Lvív) in 1844; 
worked at the administrative library of the Ministry of the Interior 
in Vienna from 1849. After retirement moved to Berchtesgaden in 1874. 
His major project was the compilation of a 60-volume biographical 
encyclopaedia on the Austrian Emperors, "Biographisches Lexikon des 
Kaiserthums Oesterreich" (60 vols., 1856-1891).
