Ybbsitz, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Amstetten, alt
414 m, pop. 3,915, area 104.17 km%%sup 2/%, municipality
with trading and industrial enterprises at the confluence of the
Rivers Prollingbach and Schwarze Ois, at the foot of Prochenberg
mountain. Town with ancient traditions in producing small iron
products. - Health resort for the blind; production sector predominant
(especially metal-processing: metalware, sectional iron, machines,
tools); enamelwork production, some tourism. - Parish church,
late-Gothic hall church, choir (1519), nave (1489-1497) with Baroque
spire (1784), marble high altar (from the middle of the 18%%sup th/%
century) from the Carthusian monastery in Gaming, in Ybbsitz since
1784, late-Gothic statue of the Virgin, stone pulpit; rectory
(1778-1786); manor houses of the "Hammerherren" (owners of
metalworking shops and forges in the 17%%sup th/% /18%%sup th/%
century) with Rococo façades; ancient forge hammers (e.g.
Fahrngruber-Hammer) along the iron road in the Haselgraben rift valley
and In der Noth road (smithery trail and theme trail); renovated
pickaxe forge shop; Kremayr Museum; observation tower and mountain
refuge on Prochenberg mountain (1,123 m).
