Zuerich Kosmos Versicherungen AG, Vienna, developed from the merger of 
Zuerich Allgemeine Unfall- und Haftpflicht Versicherungs AG (active in 
Austria since 1876) and Kosmos Actiengesellschaft Rueck- und 
Mitversicherungen (founded in 1870); in 1928 it took over the 
insurance company Kosmos Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG, which was 
established in Vienna in 1910; in 1979 it was restructured to become 
the present Zuerich Kosmos Versicherungen AG. Active in life, accident 
and non-life insurance. Total premiums in 1998: ATS 
2,900 billion; employees 1,069.
