b. Vienna, Feb. 15, 1782, 
d. Graz (Stmk.), April 2, 1851, botanist. Private secretary to 
Archduke  Johann, head of the imperial Agricultural Society; 
contributed considerably to the exploration of the Austrian alpine 
flora. Several plants were named after him.
