!!!Zement
Cement: In Austria F. Kink started producing Roman cement in Schwoich
near Kufstein in 1842. Portland cement, which was especially important
for the building industry, was first produced in 1856 by A. Kraft in
Haering (Tyrol), who was granted a privilege for it. Due to the name
of the site the cement produced there was called "Perlmooser Cement".
In 1993 there were 13 cement plants in Austria: Loruens (Vorarlberg),
Vils, Kirchbichl, Eiberg (Tyrol), Gartenau (Salzburg), Wietersdorf
(Carinthia), Gmunden, Kirchdorf an der Krems (Upper Austria),
Peggau, Terznei (Styria), Wopfing, Mannersdorf (Lower Austria), and
Rodaun (Vienna). Cement production amounted to
1.28 million t in 1950, 4.92 million t in 1970,
and 4.85 million t in 1993.
