b. Prague (Czech Republic), Nov. 2, 1824, 
d. Prague, Aug. 31, 1898, philosopher. Creator of formal aesthetics, 
is regarded as the "first historiographer of aesthetics"; Professor at 
the University of Olmuetz (Olomouc), Prague and Vienna (from 1861). 
Together with E.  Reich he founded the  Grillparzer-Gesellschaft 
(Grillparzer Society) in 1890.
