b. Osijek, Croatia (then Esseg), Sept. 25, 1904, 
d. Baden (Lower Austria), Oct. 24, 1990, explorer of African 
countries, writer of travel books. Planter, big-game hunter and head 
of expeditions in equatorial Africa from 1928 to 1938; returned to 
Africa in 1950. Some of his collections are exhibited in the Vienna 
Museum of Natural Sciences and the Museum of Ethnology.
