| Nikola Tesla 's Wardenclyffe wireless station , located in Shoreham, New York , seen in 1904. The 187 foot (57 m) transmitting tower appears to rise from the building but actually stands on the ground behind it. Built by Tesla from 1901 to 1904 with backing from Wall Street banker J. P. Morgan , the experimental facility was intended to be a transatlantic radiotelegraphy station and wireless power transmitter, but was never completed. The tower was torn down in 1916 but the lab building, designed by noted New York architect Stanford White remains.| Retrieved from http://www.sftesla.org/images/Tesla_Broadcast_Tower.JPG Previously published in Arthur B. | Tesla's Wardenclyffe tower on Long Island in partial stage of demolition. On July 4, 1917 the Smiley Steel Company of New York began demolition of the tower by dynamiting it but it took till September to totally demolish it. Tesla built it in 1901-1903 and sold it to investors as a wireless communication center. He also wanted to demonstrate wireless transmission of electrical energy. Tesla ran out of funding before he could finish it.| The Literary Digest, Volume 55, September 8, 1917, page 25| attributed to the "American Press Association"| [{Image src='https://www.austria-forum.org/cc/images/slim/publicdomain.png' alt='Public domain' align='center' link='https://www.austria-forum.org/cc/public-domain-10.html' target='_blank'}]| Datei:Wardenclyffe tower tesla new york demolition july september 1917.png
