At the southern edge of the Danakil Depression lies the small village of Awash, known for its railway station, where once the trains from Addis Ababa to Djibuti used to stop for lunch. Today, trucks take up the transport of goods on this strategically important route. However, Chinese companies are already working on a revitalization of the railway line.

Am Südende der Danakil-Senke liegt der kleine Ort Awash, bekannt für seine Eisenbahnstation, an der früher die Züge von Addis Ababa nach Djibuti Mittagspause machten. Heute übernehmen LKW den Gütertransport an dieser strategisch wichtigen Strecke. Allerdings arbeiten chinesische Firmen bereits an einer Revitalisierung der Bahnlinie.
