'Mother Earth, holy earth, thank you for giving us food. Without you, our stomachs are empty, without you there is suffering and need.' These are the first words of the Indians' prayers to Pachamama, who is still honoured with offerings of flowers and food. The roots of this cult of the earth mother date back to times immemorial. Thousands of years ago an unknown civilization built an architectural masterpiece of titanic proportions in Pumapunku Pumapunku, Bolivia . How the foundation slabs for a presumed temple, with a weight of up to 1000 t, were brought here from a quarry 17 km away remains an unresolved mystery.
„Mutter Erde, heilige Erde, Dank, daß du uns Nahrung gibst. Ohne dich sind unsere Mägen leer, ohne dich ist Leid und Not.“ So beginnen die Gebete der Indios an Pachamama, die bis heute mit Opfergaben aus Blumen und Nahrungsmitteln geehrt wird. Die Wurzeln der Entstehung des Erdmutterkultes reicht in graue Vorzeit zurück. Schon vor Jahrtausenden schuf eine unbekannte Kultur in Pumapunku Pumapunku, Bolivia ein architektonisches Meisterwerk von titanischen Ausmaßen. Wie die bis zu 1000 t schwere Fundamentplatten für einen mutmaßlichen Tempel vom 17 km entfernten Steinbruch transportiert wurden, bleibt ein ungelöstes Rätsel.
