You can take a tour on Athabasca Glacier by [Ice Explorer|http://www.brewster.ca/rocky-mountains/destinations/columbia-icefield/activities/columbia-icefield-glacier-adventure], a massive vehicle specially designed for glacial travel.

You can get out to step on the glacier and to watch how melting water forms a stream that eventually falls into a hole in teh ice to continue below the ice. (Next picture)
