The Colorado School of Mines (CSM) , one of the leading mining universietes, is today the main connection with them mining history of Golden. Indeed CSM has similar aims as the famous mining university in Leoben, Austria. Thus, it does not come as surprise that there is a close connection between the two universities, including mutual visits of staff. Mount Zion near Golden bears a huge M for the CSM. It is one of the nice traditions that students who start at CMS clean and whitewash the M as part of a formal celebration. One can observe quite often hat mining universities preserve traditions better than usual universities. The "Ledersprung" ritual in Leoben is lending also support to this statement!.
