The massive stone colossus that is the Dhammayangyi temple reveals from the outside, what the building is meant for: a dark meditation cave. The initiator of the building, king Narapatisithu, supposedly had a mason beheaded, because he had arranged two bricks so carelessly that the ruler was able to slide a needle between them.

Der wuchtige Steinkoloss des Dhammayangyi-Tempels entspricht genau dem, was er darstellen soll: eine finstere Meditationshöhle. Der Bauherr, König Narapatisithu soll einen Maurer eigenhändig enthauptet haben, weil er zwei Ziegelsteine so schlampig verlegt hatte, dass der Herrscher eine Nadel dazwischenschieben konnte.
