The Iron Pillar is one of the oldest monuments of metal in the world. It is located in the Qutb complex for about 700 to 1000 years. Sometimes it’s called Ashoka Pillar. Its history goes back even further: In a Sanskrit inscription the pillar is named together with the Hindu god Vishnu. By that fact it goes back to the time of the Gupta Empire (320-550 n. Chr.).
