Unfortunately, this is often not the case, since the smog situation can be quite bad. 

But even the highest mountain of Iran Damavand (almost 6000 m, see [{WebBookPlugin src='web-books/damavand00de2001iicm' mode='icon'}]) is sometimes visible in all its glory, as shown by the next two pictures.
