Past the commercial centre of Özgön[{GoogleMap location='Özgön, Kyrgyzstan' zoom='7'}] and over the 3200 m high Alabel-Pass, an asphalt road leads along the ancient trade route to the capital of Bishkek, 600 km away. The road follows the Naryn River, the most powerful river in the Tien-Shan mountains, which has gouged deep canyons into the mountainous world.
