The Region Rostov Rostov, Russia is located some 1200 km south of Moscow, only some 60 km from the Asov sea (a big bay area of the Black Sea). Rostov is located on the Don river. It has some 4 million inhabitants. It is very special in that the major bridge that crosses the river leads from the industrial and "ordinary" part of Rostov to the other side that is exclusively used as recreational area, with beaches for swimming, many restaurants (some on boats) and many other entertainment facilities. The city goverment can be congratulated on this brave decision to keep one side free from major buildings and industry.

In what follows we show a few pictures of highlights pointed out by friends including Novocherkassk with its famous cathedral, the Cossacks museum, the village Sachty and Taganrog, on the Sea of Azov. A highlight was a swimming/ fishing/ picknicking excursion to a huge slow flowing river.

Die Region Rostov liegt im Süden der osteuropäischen Tiefebene, ca. 1200 km südlich von Moskau, im Westen nicht weit vom Azovschen Meer, das als riesige Bucht des Schwarzen Meers gesehen werden kann. Rostov, direkt am Don gelegen, hat heute über 4 Millionen Einwohner. Hier sind nur einige Eindrücke aus Rostov selbst und aus der Umgebung, darunter aus Novocherkassk mit der berühmten Kathedrale und dem Kossacken Museum, sowie aus Sachty und Taganrog, das direkt am Azovschen Meer liegt.

Das Bild zeigt einen typischen Blick von dem weitgehend unverbautem Ufer des Dons hinüber auf die Millionenstadt.
