Furthermore, for the future it is planned to explore new avenues regarding urban development and is experimenting with energy-independent and CO2-neutral living spaces such as the eco-city Masdar City 30km east of Abu Dhabi. Construction works started in 2008, and completion is scheduled for 2025. The city with its 50,000 inhabitants will then power itself only by renewable energy and be almost free of waste by means of systematic recycling.

Baubeginn war 2008, die Fertigstellung ist für 2025 vorgesehen. Die 50.000 Einwohner-Stadt soll sich dann ausschließlich durch erneuerbare Energien versorgen und durch konsequentes Recycling nahezu abfallfrei sein.
