Der hohe Gebirgszug des Biokovo[{GoogleMap location='Biokovo, Croatia' zoom='10'}] bildet das Rückgrat der Riviera von Makarska und schützt die Küste vor kalten Winden aus dem Landesinneren. Ein Bilderbuch aus Karst – so könnte man das Biokovogebirge treffend bezeichnen. Eine Straße führt bis auf den Gipfel in 1762 m Höhe – Panoramablicke inklusive. Noch lohnender sind die zahlreichen Wanderwege, die gut ausgeschildert durch das Naturparadies führen. Neben Schwarzkiefern findet sich eine überraschend reiche Vegetation, darunter die bis zu 2 m aufragende Königskerze, übrigens eine wichtige Heilpflanze bei Husten.

The high mountain range of Biokovo[{GoogleMap location='Biokovo, Croatia' zoom='10'}] is the backbone of the Makarska Riviera, protecting the coast from cold winds from the interior. A picture book out of Karst - this is how you could describe the Biokovo Mountains aptly. A road leads to the summit at 1762 m altitude - panoramic views included. Even more rewarding are the numerous hiking trails. They lead through the natural paradise well signposted. In addition to black pines, there is a surprisingly rich vegetation, including the up to 2 m towering mullein. This is, by the way, an important medicinal plant for cough.
