The nice little place reveals the secret of his nationwide fame only at second glance. It is France's most famous place to go for oyster lovers. 400 ha oyster beds are waiting in the bay of Cancale for buyers. Since ancient times the mussel is considered as a delicacy and allegedly a highly effective aphrodisiac. After all, the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite, rose from an oyster. Since the mussel has only a small caloric value, the stomach can do with large amounts of this slobbery delicacy. The Roman emperor Vitellius is said to have demolished more than 1,000 animals during the course of a single meal. The only problem is the rapid perishability of the oyster, what easily leads to dangerous poisoning. Therefore, care is taken that the oyster is eaten raw and even alive.
