Probably built in the early 13th century by the Dukes of Limburg above the Rur valley, the castle was expanded in the 14th century. Today the renovated castle houses one of the two hostels of Monschau.

Wahrscheinlich zu Beginn des 13. Jahrhunderts durch die Herzöge von Limburg über dem Rurtal errichtet, wurde die Burg im 14. Jahrhundert weiter ausgebaut. Heute befindet sich in der renovierten Burg eine der beiden Jugendherbergen Monschaus.
