The town hall of Berlin, called Rotes Rathaus (Red City Hall) [{GoogleMap location='Rotes Rathaus, Rathausstraße, Berlin, Deutschland' zoom='15'}], is located in the Mitte borough near Alexanderplatz and is the home of the governing mayor and the government (the Senate of Berlin) of the federal state of Berlin. In 1861 the construction started and it took eight years to finish this building. It is built in the style of the north Italian High Renaissance and its name derives from the red clinker bricks used in the facade design.
